STCW Basic refresher - Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention & Personal Survival Techniques

This is the updating or refresher course required after 1st January 2017 if your certificates for these modules are over (or going to be over) 5 years old. The Personal Survival Techniques updating is a half day course and the Basic Fire-fighting updating course is a one day course and are held in our training rooms in Kingskerswell.

We use a modern fire training rig with gas fired cribs and synthetic non-toxic smoke to produce a very realistic, controllable, environmentally friendly and safe training environment.

Entry Requirements

Please ensure you have completed the appropriate pre-requisites for these courses listed in the Annex of MSN 1865 (M). You will need to sign a declaration to confirm that you have completed the following onboard training in the last 5 years:-

1. Don a life jacket
2. Board a survival craft from the ship, while wearing a life jacket
3. Take initial actions on boarding a lifeboat to enhance chance of
survival
4. Stream a life raft drogue or sea-anchor
5. Operate survival craft equipment
6. Operate location devices, including radio equipment
