Target group
The Medical First Aid on board (MFA) and Medical Care on board (MC) training courses are obligatory for the captain and those responsible for medical care on board a ship. They must have both certificates (Medical First Aid and Medical Care).
Prior education
STCW Basic Training.
Contents of the course
Subjects are taught according to STCW table A-V/4-1 and 4-2.
Summary:
- Recognizing causes, the extent and the seriousness of accidents and illnesses on board.
- Providing quick medical first aid in the event of an accident or illness.
- Providing medical care to ill or wounded people on board in accordance with the guidelines of national and international medical actions.
- Recognizing changes in a patient’s condition.
- Requesting external assistance and supervising a medical evacuation.
Emphasis is placed on the practical skills required for medical first aid and medical care on board a ship.
Duration
5 consecutive days. Lesson times: 8.30 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.
In some cases, it is possible to attend the course at a nautical training college.
Certification
If participants pass the final practical exam, they are awarded an official (ILenT/Scheepvaart approved) STCW, as amended, certificate and the seaman's book is stamped. STC B.V. is recognized by the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport) under the institute code NL007.
Remarks
To be sent in advance:
Copy of a valid STCW Basic Training certificate (see prior education) and a copy of the participant’s passport.
These items are required for the certificate to be awarded.
