This five-day simulator course is the second in the dynamic positioning training scheme by The Nautical Institute.
The course focuses on the practical application of dynamic positioning (DP) using class A DP simulators.
Through a series of simulator exercises, students learn detailed operational planning, power management stratagem, weather observation, blackout recovery methods, DP incident mitigation, and other skills necessary to being a valuable member of the bridge team. Emphasis is placed on safe DP operations and handling various DP emergencies.
What you'll learn
The course includes DP simulator exercises involving different vessels and types of operations. DP system and vessel safe operational procedures, system alarm messages, DP system setup, power generation faults, DP failures and safe operation are tested. The course comprises around 25% of theory and the rest being practical exercises and assessments. It is followed by an Online Test conducted by the Nautical Institute.
Prerequisites
Students must be licensed deck officers, naval officers, or maritime cadets currently in training but not qualified as deck officers.
Students must also have completed phases A and B of the Nautical Institute’s DP operator scheme. Phase B requires 60 days of DP sea time and the completion of task sections in the DP logbook.
