To gain basic and advance knowledge and skills of shiphandling principles, maneuvering ship with unusual characteristics or significantly different characteristics from previous ships type, maneuvering in different weather conditions and in various complexity areas including narrow channel passage.

Course content:

• Basic principles and forces acting to a ship
• Standard maneuvers
• Wind and current effects
• Shallow water effects and ship to ship interaction
• Bank effect
• Use of ugs
• Maneuvers on ships with unusual maneuvering characteristics
• Type specific ship handling with vessels, where maneuvering characteristics significantly differs from those in which participants have recently served

Entry Requirements

Certificate of Competence as officer in charge of a navigational watch and should present appropriate diploma/certificate
