The Navigational Watch Rating (NWR) certificate is becoming an increasingly common requirement for deckhands on ships which follow a commercial or passenger yacht code. The NWR is achieved by showing you have advanced deck skills and completed a specific set of watchkeeping tasks to become a valuable crew member. It also helps signal to the Captain and agencies that you’re someone who takes their role seriously and is looking to further your career and experience. The certificate acts as an official record of your experience which can be taken from ship to ship throughout your career.
The course is recognized by all Yacth flag regsitries and is the equivalant of the Yacht rating certificate, with the benefit of an internationally recognized certificate. (STCW)
With our highly qualified team of instructors (Master Mariners), you will walk away with professional STCW certification, recognized Worldwide and a 4-month sea time credit that can be used towards the next deck level. There is no ship size limitation with this certificate. You will receive hands on training using our state of the art ship simulator with ship models from Superyahcts to Cruise Ships!
With this course we highly recommend you take the 2-day deckhand workshop and the STCW Basic Training (2-day blended course) to complete your competancy for a deckhandSposition. You will receive a 20% discount on the blended course if booked together with the STCW Deckhand (rating) course.
Does this training give me any formal qualifications?
Yes, you will receive the STCW Deck Navigation watch rating qualification known as the rating forming part of a navigation watch. This credential can be utilized to progress through the ranks and give you the ability to work on all commercial ships and support the watch in an official capacity. All large ships now have to carry a safe manning document, with this qualification you can be part of the safe manning.
What does the Deckhand course teach?
You will learn seamanship, emergency operations, Mooring/anchoring operations, rules of the road (ship collision avoidance), safety and pollution regulations, lifesaving appliances, practical steering, compass work, Internal communications and terminology, Lookout duties and correct reporting.
What are the advantages of taking this course comparted to the conventional yacht rating course?
In addition, having the skill to support mooring/anchoring and lifesaving operations you will also become familiar with bridge operations giving the Captain confidence in your ability to perform these duties from the moment you step on the gangway. This credential is the entry to further progress your career and work towards an Officer of the Watch License. The course is taught by the most experienced Master Mariners with extensive large yacht and commercial ship experience.
