Avoid, avoid, avoid Glasgow Maritime Academy. After they canceled my courses, it took 30 days of constant hounding to get my £2k refund. They made the process unnecessarily difficult, and the whole experience felt shady and highly unprofessional. I believe they rely on people giving up on their refunds. In hindsight, I’m relieved the courses were canceled. Use Stream Marine Training instead—they’re also based in Glasgow but far more professional and trustworthy. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company!

Pass rate at an all time low but advertising that they have almost 100%.

    Disappointing Online Course Experience
This course fell short of expectations in several aspects:
    * Inconsistent Instruction: The instructor switch after a week disrupted the learning flow, and the replacement seemed to rely on recycled material.
    * Limited Knowledge Support: The new instructor's inability to address questions effectively raised concerns about their subject matter expertise.
    * High Cost, Low Value: The course's high price tag didn't match the quality of instruction delivered.
    * Quality Decline: The online course fell far short of the standards experienced in the 2019 offline classes.
    Recommendation:
Given these issues, I would recommend looking elsewhere for a course that provides consistent, high-quality instruction at a fair price.

I'm astonished this place isn't rated lower to be honest as it has quite a reputation for being a cowboy organisation. Don't even know where to start with this.

I had exams booked with them which were cancelled fairly last minute. The circumstances for this are highly suspicious although most people were able to come to the same conclusion.

On another occasion with a week long course booked, it was cancelled last minute leaving me (or rather my company) on the hook for hundreds and hundreds of pounds worth of flights and hotels. No regard for them shown by GMA as they do not care when they take your booking. Note, a booking means absolutely nothing to these cowboys until the course has a profitable number of people so I would get absolute confirmation on this before booking transport. Even better would be to avoid them in the first place.

The courses I done were an absolute joke. The medical course was essentially a recap of more basic courses we had done prior and then a very quick brush over the new content on the last day when the lecturer realised he had spent all week bragging about his range rovers and business.

This was topped off with multiple Irish jokes from someone who served in an army stationed in ireland oppressing the irish people. Not well received by the two Irish people on the course. Also not well received was the course instructor implying subtly that the 7 aid workers killed in an attack by the IDF in Gaza were not aid workers. Extremely offensive 2 days after they had died.

The courses I did there felt like a waste of time and left me very much questioning how they had MCA approval. I saw the 'simulators' they have for Naest and am in the end happy I got that course rebooked elsewhere as the are just 3 computer monitors with a keyboard and are absolutely nowhere near the standard of any approved college.

Stay well away from these absolute cowboys. The only good thing I can say is the Helm M lecturer who I had at college is a very nice guy.

I did the online chief mates orals prep course. I decided to go with this company due to recommendations from colleagues. Whilst they do offer a lot of content and elements of it are good. I I found their overall approach to the prep course and delivery of it to be very unprofessional. They were often late without notice or sometimes one hour early with only a few minutes notice. The quality of their resources was often poor and cumbersome. When seeking clarification on certain points their explanations at times were misleading and left me just as confused.

For the price I paid (£1050). I do not think it was value for money. There are better prep courses available. I would not recommend GMA.

Cannot recommend GMA enough. The lecturers are highly knowledgeable, patient and helpful. I have just completed Chief Mates orals prep course, and it is fantastic. It covers all areas of study very well with support material and software that is not offered elsewhere. Well worth it.

The courses aren't good, the classes can be overcrowded, some of the lecturers can't speak clear English. For the oral prep there is no conceptual learning, only associative, so you just memozise information to regurgitate parrot fashion only to forget after passing the oral exam. You learn the exam and pass, but you aren't properly educated, just an exercise how good you are a remembering things. Some but not all of the Indian students are disruptive in classes as they repeat what the lecturers say all the time. Lecturers are often late and take too many smoking breaks. The courses are expensive but a waste of time, the Croatia guy was friendly but just spent the time boasting and giving the class irrelevant IQ tests. They run courses more regularly than other places which warrants one star.
